“Your outer journey may contain a million steps; your inner journey only has one: the step you are taking right now.”
I started reading this book in September and had to reread it again in October because to be honest, there were so many gems that I knew flew right over my head. I would say that this book was such an excellent choice especially right now with all of the issues that have caused a lot of anxiety and stress upon majority of us.
In “The Power of Now”, Eckhart Tolle informs us about the importance of staying in the present moment. When you’re not living in the presence, it’s most likely because you are focusing on something regarding your future or allowing the past to take you back to a moment that no longer serves you because the past is the PAST. Staying in the NOW, you will begin to realize that right at this present moment, that is what you have to work with and to focus on. Are you going to use this present moment to make things better for yourself by releasing the anxiety and worry that comes from thoughts of your future or past? Are you going to make an effort to change your thought process by finding ways to get more grounded in yourself by staying still, meditating and consciously telling yourself that you are not your past mistakes or anxious thoughts of what’s to come?
“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life.”
Eckhart Tolle also talks about how the Ego can keep us from being happy within. He says that so many of us are used to feeling pain that we pretty much become dependent on it, just as a lot of us become dependent on drama. Ego plays a huge part in this. We always want to be in control of everything that happens and everything that is going on not only in our lives but in the lives of others, thinking that by doing this we will be able to prevent pain or drama from entering into our lives. Trying to be in control of everything is actually what is making you more depressed, more stressed and acquire more pain. When you learn how to surrender to God and stop trying to control everything, you will see that you are not and cannot be in control of everything and you release the pressure from your mind and your body. When you choose to surrender and choose to live in the now, you are trusting God to take care of everything that may come your way and you are able to let go of the past and let go of the worries of the future, knowing that everything will work out the way that it is supposed to.
He mentions that there are two ways of looking at Pain. There is the Pain that is brought on by the worries and thoughts of the mind and that can be prevented by not trying to control everything and everyone and by surrendering your ego, stress and anxiety to God. Then there is the pain that can occur in your life such as the death of a loved one and even though that kind of pain is something that you must deal with, it is important for you to make sure that you ACTUALLY DEAL WITH IT and not avoid it or try to bury the actual pain that is actually happening to you.
“The mind always seeks to deny the Now and to escape from it. In other words, the more you are identified with your mind, the more you suffer. Or you may put it like this: the more you are able to honor and accept the Now, the more you are free of pain, of suffering – and free of the egoic mind.”
Overall, It is super important for us to live in the moment and choose to live a positive, free and intentional life. Being in the present moment, you must realize that this moment will never happen again and it is intentional that you make the most of it by not using every moment to be upset, anxious and stressed about things that haven’t actually happened to you or things that are over and done with. By doing this, you are allowing the old to pass and the new to come. Your frequency of good vibrations and energy will begin to attract all of the good to enter into your life.
“If you get the inside right, the outside will fall into place. Primary reality is within; secondary reality without.”
Well, I could go on and on about everything that I took away from this incredible book but I don’t want to give away all of the gems that is so important for you to receive yourself in your own way. I hope that all of you choose to focus on your present moment and add to your life in a positive way by first, picking up a copy of Eckhart Tolle’s “The Power of Now” and most importantly using his strategies and discover that focusing on the NOW will reduce and eventually eliminate the anxiety and stress that can come from worry towards things that no longer serve us and that will contribute to us moving forward in a positive way.
